Why We Refreshed the Selkirk Tangiers Look
If you’ve noticed a new look from Selkirk Tangiers recently, you’re not alone. Our logo has evolved, and with it comes a story rooted deeply in our past, our terrain, and where we’re headed next.
We sat down with our GM Dave Pehowich to talk about where the original logo came from, what inspired the new design, and how it reflects the future of Selkirk Tangiers.
A Logo with Deep Roots
STHS was founded in 1978 by Swiss mountain guide Peter Shlunegger. One of our earliest heli ski trips explored the Tangiers Valley, giving rise to the Selkirk Tangiers name – a nod to both the Selkirk and Monashee mountain ranges where our tenure lies today.
“Our helicopter skiing tenure is located in the Selkirk and Monashees. We’re known for our incredible variety of terrain. We have huge alpine glaciers all the way down to legendary tree skiing, spread across half a million acres of skiable terrain.”
Over the years, our original logo reflected that early era. It began as a cartoon-style helicopter before evolving into a more realistic helicopter design, paired with the original font and familiar colour palette. For many guests, that logo became integrated in their heli ski memories.
“It has a strong history with us. The helicopter, the colours – it’s a big part of who we are.”
The Inspiration Behind the New Logo
The foundation of the new logo is Albert Peak – one of the highest and most prominent mountains in our tenure.
“You see Albert Peak as you enter Revelstoke from the west. It’s one of the first big, iconic mountains people notice. For us, it represents how special our heli ski tenure really is.”
The design blends that powerful mountain silhouette with a bold, modern font. The goal wasn’t to erase the past, but to connect Selkirk Tangiers’ heritage with the next chapter.
“We wanted to capture a heritage feel through the mountain itself, while using a modern font that reflects the new era of Selkirk Tangiers.”
Looking Ahead: The Future of Selkirk Tangiers
The timing of the new logo isn’t accidental. It’s closely tied to a major transition for STHS.
“The change to the logo really was inspired by our transition into our new hotel at the base of Revelstoke Mountain Resort, planned for the 2027/28 season.”
STHS’ future still revolves around heli skiing, but also opens the door to year-round adventure and greater visibility.
“Being based at the resort means people will see us daily flying in and out, heading to the mountains. We offer both day heli and multi-day packages, so it’s a great way to introduce more skiers to what Selkirk Tangiers is all about.”
The refreshed logo reflects that broader vision: firmly grounded in heli skiing, but ready for what comes next.
Honouring the Old While Embracing the New
For longtime guests, the original logo holds a lot of meaning, and that hasn’t been forgotten.
“The old logo will always be a part of our history. You’ll see the new logo on most signage going forward, but there will definitely be heritage pieces that capture the essence of the original.”
At its core, what draws guests to STHS hasn’t changed.
“If you ask our guests why they choose us, it always comes back to terrain. We have one of the best heli ski tenures in the industry, with options for good weather days, storm days, and everything in between.”
Whether it’s alpine lines, deep tree runs, or waiting out a storm with a few laps at the ski hill, the Selkirk Tangiers experience remains the same, even as the look evolves.
A New Look, the Same Selkirk Tangiers
The refreshed logo represents where we’ve been, what we stand on, and where we’re going, without losing sight of what makes Selkirk Tangiers special in the first place.
Same terrain. Same team. Same passion. A new symbol for the next chapter.
