Spring Skiing: Why Late Season Might Be the Best Time to Fly
Spring in Revelstoke doesn’t mean the end of winter — it means access. As the days stretch longer (hello sun!), the Selkirk and Monashee mountains open up in a whole new way. For those in the know, spring can be one of the most rewarding times of the season to heli ski. And as the saying goes: you have to go to know.
By late season, the snowpack has had time to settle and mature, creating generally stable conditions that allow us to explore more terrain and link longer, more varied runs. Combined with warmer temperatures and bluebird days, spring skiing delivers a balance of comfort, coverage, and quality that’s hard to beat. Here are five reasons why spring might be the best time to take that trip.
-
Longer Days, More Skiing
One of the biggest advantages of spring skiing is simple: daylight. Longer days mean more time in the mountains, more flexibility in our flight plans, and the opportunity to ski a greater variety of terrain in a single day. With fewer weather delays and clearer skies, spring often brings smoother operations and more consistent flying, meaning more skiing for guests.
-
High Alpine Access
As winter transitions to spring, we gain reliable access to higher elevations and glacier terrain. This opens the door to expansive alpine bowls, long ridge lines, and wide-open faces that are often inaccessible earlier in the season. These zones offer a completely different skiing experience — big turns, dramatic scenery, and seemingly endless vertical.
-
Chasing the Best Snow
While the sun plays a bigger role in spring, great snow is still very much on the menu. Our guides focus on Northern aspects that are naturally protected from direct sunlight, preserving cold, dry powder well into the season. Combined with higher elevations and shaded terrain, it’s common to find incredible snow quality even as snow temperatures rise in the valley.
-
A Settled Snowpack, Endless Options
By spring, the snowpack has gone through months of storms, compaction, and bonding. This generally improved stability gives our guides greater confidence to explore complex terrain, from long alpine descents to sustained tree runs and glacier lines. The result is a wider range of run options and the ability to tailor each day to the best conditions available.

Sun, Views, and the Full Mountain Experience
Spring skiing isn’t just about the turns, it’s about the atmosphere. Warmer temperatures, blue skies, and sun-soaked peaks create a relaxed, unforgettable experience in the mountains. It’s the season of high fives on the ridgeline, long runs back to the valley, and taking a moment to soak in the scale of Revelstoke’s terrain.
For those willing to look beyond mid-winter, spring delivers some of the most memorable skiing of the season. With longer days, high alpine access, and carefully chosen aspects, spring with STHS delivers some of the most rewarding skiing of the year.
